In Kropyvnytskyi, public transport is transitioning to card-only payments

In Kropyvnytskyi, two trolleybuses are already transporting passengers without conductors and do not accept cash payments. This is the first practical step towards a complete transition of public transport to automated payment processing. This is reported by Dostyp. Media.

Cashless payments on Kropyvnytskyi trolleybuses are already functioning

Passengers of trolleybus No. 9 noticed the changes. A resident of the city, Olga, mentioned that she traveled on a vehicle with board number 123, which had no conductor. The driver explained to passengers that he was not allowed to accept cash, so fare payment can only be made by card.

KPP Elektrotrans confirmed: routes are already being serviced by vehicles that cater to passengers exclusively through ASOOP, an automated fare collection system. The number of such trolleybuses will be gradually increased.

The head of the city transport department, Viktor Zhytnyk, specified that currently, two trolleybuses operate without conductors. The drivers cannot accept cash. If a passenger only has bills or coins, they can settle with a controller.

New tariffs in Kropyvnytskyi will take effect after the introduction of cards

On July 14, the executive committee of Kropyvnytskyi City Council approved the new fare for public transport. For passengers who will use cashless payment, it will be lower.

• Trolleybus: 12 UAH by card or 15 UAH for a paper ticket.
• Bus: 18 UAH by card or 20 UAH for a paper ticket.

The new tariffs are expected to come into effect after the sale of transport cards starts, approximately in August. The transitional period will last at least six months.

The transition to cards in Kropyvnytskyi will change the role of conductors

After the transitional period ends, conductors are expected to disappear from public routes, and payments will become fully cashless. At the same time, validators have already been installed in all public buses and trolleybuses.

For the city, this means a gradual change in the usual payment method: passengers who only use cash will need to purchase a transport card in advance or learn another cashless payment method. Currently, this system only operates in select vehicles.

It should be noted that in Kropyvnytskyi, new fare rates for public transport have been approved, with the highest fare for bus trips being 20 UAH.
