In Kropyvnytskyi, it is planned to abandon cash payments directly to the driver on buses and electric transport. The draft decision provides for the transition to electronic payment methods starting March 1, 2027. This is reported by CBN.

ACOPS in Kropyvnytskyi: when cash payments to the driver may disappear

The document is still in draft status. If approved, starting March 1, 2027, passengers will not be able to pay cash directly to the driver or any other employee of the carrier.

They offer several ways to pay for the trip:

  • using a transport card;

  • using a bank card;

  • via a mobile payment application;

  • using other electronic means integrated into ACOPS.

ACOPS, or the automated fare payment accounting system, has been operating in Kropyvnytskyi in test mode since June 2026. It allows recording payments with electronic tickets and maintaining accurate transportation records, the city council reported.

For privileged categories, the right to free travel remains. Only the accounting method will change: passengers will need to register a personalized transport card in the system.

The city council has already determined the procedure for issuing such cards. The authorities emphasize that the introduction of ACOPS does not cancel benefits but is intended to make compensation for carriers more transparent and accurate, according to the official statement.

What carriers need to prepare by March 2027

The draft decision places the responsibility on carriers to explain the new payment rules to passengers. The system operator must ensure the stable operation of validators, sales and top-up points for cards, as well as informational support for users.

For residents, the main challenge will be adapting to the new format. A transition period is needed for passengers to issue cards, learn how to use validators, and not be left without any way to pay for their trips.

It should be noted that Kropyvnytskyi has approved new tariffs for travel prior to the introduction of cards.
