April 2028 Launch Set for Overnight Rail Service Joining Brussels and Amsterdam to Copenhagen and Malmo

New Overnight Route Takes Shape

According to УНІАН — Туризм: A direct overnight rail link connecting Brussels and Amsterdam with Copenhagen and Malmo is scheduled to begin service in April 2028, following an agreement between European Sleeper and German operator RDC. It will mark European Sleeper’s first Scandinavian venture, opening a seamless corridor between the Benelux countries, Denmark, and southern Sweden. Night trains are increasingly being embraced across Europe as a practical alternative to short flights, giving this project added relevance.

Services are planned to leave Brussels and Malmo at about 7 p.m. local time and reach their destinations around 10 a.m. the next day, letting passengers sleep through the journey. Copenhagen and Malmo will be reachable without changes, while trips to London, Paris, Stockholm, and Oslo will require one extra connection.

Onboard Comfort and Future Expansion

The rolling stock, supplied by European Sleeper and RDC, is expected to feature seats, couchettes, and shared sleeping compartments. There are also plans to introduce Deluxe sleeper cabins with double beds and private bathrooms. European Sleeper’s first night service between Brussels and Milan is set to depart on 26 August 2026, and a Brussels–Barcelona route is planned for 2028 as part of the company’s network growth. The new Brussels–Amsterdam–Copenhagen–Malmo service underlines the push for more integrated railways in Europe, offering a comfortable way to travel across multiple countries and potentially strengthening tourism in the region.

The introduction of this overnight service comes at a time when rail travel is evolving across Europe, particularly with significant changes in cross-border connections. For instance, Virgin Trains' recent entry into the Channel rail market marks a pivotal shift, highlighting the increasing competition and innovation in the rail industry. This trend not only enhances travel options but also encourages a more sustainable approach to transportation.
