Tree-Learning Meadow Installed at Lviv's Zniesinnya Park

New Outdoor Classroom for Tree Studies Opens in Zniesinnya

The site is located within the children's playground area at the base of Mount Stefan, near the start of the staircase. Rubryka reported the news, citing the Lviv City Council. Lviv, a major cultural hub in western Ukraine, continues to enhance its public green spaces with such learning opportunities.

The meadow features authentic cross-sections of various tree species alongside a clear visual guide explaining how to read annual growth rings to determine a tree's age. This initiative aims to encourage people to spend meaningful time outdoors, pick up new knowledge, and learn to decipher the stories embedded in trees on their own.

"Here you can examine real slices of different tree species and understand a straightforward method for counting a tree's age through its rings. It's a wonderful way to enjoy nature while gaining useful insights," stated the Regional Landscape Park Zniesinnya.

About the Park

Zniesinnya Regional Landscape Park lies in Lviv's Lychakiv district, just a short distance from the city center. Officially recognized as part of Ukraine's nature reserve fund, the park spans 312.1 hectares, with an additional buffer zone covering 473.61 hectares. Together, the park and its protective area total 785.71 hectares, with the core territory located in the Kaiserwald area.

In early June, the park also welcomed a new inclusive sports and rehabilitation zone. Adjacent to this space, two vehicle parking areas and broad pedestrian walkways were built, making the grounds considerably more accessible for all visitors.

The creation of the educational meadow underscores the growing emphasis on environmental education and the promotion of natural sciences among the public. Such efforts can help foster a stronger ecological awareness among Lviv residents and tourists alike. Coupled with the inclusive sports amenities, these developments reflect a broader commitment to offering accessible, diverse activities for everyone, potentially benefiting the entire local community.
