Care for Soldier Andriy Underway in Lviv

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: In Lviv, medical professionals are treating Andriy, a soldier who sustained severe burns after an attack by a Russian FPV drone. Initially receiving care in Dnipro and Vinnytsia, Andriy was later transferred to Lviv’s largest burn unit at St. Luke's Hospital, where he now continues his treatment.

Andriy suffers from mosaic-type burns, which affect different parts of his body at varying depths. Surgeons are performing operations to remove deeply damaged tissue and cover the wounds with a biological dressing derived from Atlantic cod skin. According to the city council, this material

"forms a protective layer over the wound and supports natural tissue regeneration."

The fish skin dressing contains omega fatty acids that effectively cover wounds, ease pain, and prevent infection. Ivan Ryk, a specialist at St. Luke's Hospital, emphasized that

"the pain is reduced, the wound remains sealed, and epithelialization occurs beneath the fish skin."

However, due to its high cost, this treatment is reserved for patients who stand to benefit the most.

Recovery Efforts and Modern Treatment Protocols

Andriy’s rehabilitation continues in Lviv, where he receives ongoing support from his wife, Sofia, who has accompanied him through hospitals in Dnipro, Vinnytsia, and Lviv. Meanwhile, a newly upgraded burn center has opened at the St. Nicholas Children’s Hospital within the First Medical Association, focusing on treating severe pediatric burn injuries.

The Ukrainian Ministry of Health has introduced updated burn treatment standards inspired by European and North American practices. Ivan Ryk noted that

"burn surgery involves managing some of the most challenging patients,"

expressing satisfaction with the opportunity to implement innovative therapeutic techniques.

This case highlights the critical role of cutting-edge treatments and rehabilitation for soldiers injured during the ongoing conflict. Incorporating new technologies and materials into clinical care can greatly enhance recovery outcomes for burn victims. Strong collaboration between healthcare institutions and government bodies remains essential to delivering high-quality medical support, especially amid wartime conditions.

As the medical community in Lviv implements advanced treatments for burn victims like Andriy, it’s essential to recognize the broader efforts in Ukraine to enhance care for injured soldiers. Recently, the 151st Training Center achieved a remarkable success rate in a specialized course focused on prolonged care for the wounded, highlighting the ongoing commitment to improving medical protocols across the nation. This comprehensive approach not only benefits individual patients but also reflects a significant advancement in military medicine.
