Volodymyr Reuter: A Hero of Ukraine

According to Главком: On December 9, 2024, while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Shevchenko in the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk region, soldier Volodymyr Reuter (call sign Richter) went missing. His life was cut short while resisting Russian aggression. Following an extensive search, Reuter was finally laid to rest on May 14, 2026, at the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv. This timeline highlights the often lengthy and agonizing process of identifying and repatriating fallen soldiers.

Born on February 19, 1977, in the village of Zymna Voda, Lviv region, Reuter attended Lyceum No. 1 of the Zymnovodiv Village Council. He later pursued higher education at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, graduating from the Faculty of Geography and completing the military department. After university, he married and moved to Lviv, where he worked in the construction sector for private companies.

Military Service and Death

In 2023, recognizing the urgent need to defend his homeland, Reuter voluntarily enlisted. He fought on the southern-Slobozhansk front as part of the 60th Separate Mechanized Ingulets Brigade, and later on the Donetsk front with the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Anna of Kyiv. Starting in December 2024, he engaged in combat operations on the Pokrovsk axis.

On the final day contact was lost, he was on the front line carrying out his duties, where he was killed. Volodymyr Reuter leaves behind his wife, two sons, parents, a sister and her family, nephews, godparents, and other relatives. They will remember him as a devoted husband and father.

Reuter had a wide range of interests: he loved drawing, football, and reading, with a preference for detective novels and science fiction. He also cherished spending time outdoors with his family and enjoyed DIY projects and repair work. Thanks to his background in topography, he could navigate any terrain with confidence.

Every day at 9 AM, Ukrainians hold a moment of silence to honor all those whose lives have been taken by the Russo-Ukrainian war. Today, we remember Volodymyr Reuter, a courageous defender who gave his life for peace and security in Ukraine. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and all who knew him. Awarded the 'For Wounds' medal by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, Reuter stands as a model of bravery and selflessness for future generations.

The death of Volodymyr Reuter is yet another testament to the sacrifices Ukrainian service members make in the fight for the country's independence and territorial integrity. His story underscores the importance of remembering these heroes, who risk their lives to defend their homeland. Honoring their memory not only preserves their legacy but also inspires new generations to patriotism and devotion to their country.
