Lviv Hosts Fourth National Congress on Physical Therapy, Drawing 500 Experts
National Physical Therapy Congress Convenes in Lviv
According to Міністерство Здоров'я: Approximately 500 professionals gathered in Lviv for the fourth edition of Ukraine’s National Physical Therapy Congress. The event focused on the theme "The Power of Collaboration: Ensuring Continuous Rehabilitation Throughout Recovery Stages." Over two days, attendees explored critical topics including rehabilitation for military personnel, intensive care unit practices, pediatric therapy, community service development, and specialist training.
The congress brought together rehabilitation experts, service members, patient and veterans’ representatives, government officials, and international organizations. Discussions included a proposal to formally define the role of physical therapists within the Defense Forces and to establish dedicated positions. Emphasis was placed on delivering seamless care across service locations, hospitals, and civilian facilities.
Focus on Pediatric Rehabilitation and Family Involvement
Special attention was given to the involvement of families in setting goals and decision-making in pediatric rehabilitation.
Serhiy Khuda emphasized, "Understanding what is typical for each child’s age and developmental stage, especially their motor skills progression, is essential for effective support."
The congress also highlighted the ongoing Ministry of Health project "Development of Rehabilitation Assistance System," part of Ukraine’s National Strategy to create barrier-free environments.
The event was organized by the All-Ukrainian Association of Physical Therapists in partnership with the Patients of Ukraine Charitable Foundation, under the TRUE initiative. It received backing from both national and international entities, including:

The congress was supported by Tetyana Lomakina, Presidential Commissioner for Barrier-Free Initiatives, and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
This gathering underscored the necessity of a comprehensive rehabilitation strategy, particularly in light of Ukraine’s current challenges. Highlighting the expanding role of physical therapists in military units and the focus on children’s rehabilitation reflects an urgent demand for integrated approaches to healthcare. The congress is poised to accelerate the advancement of rehabilitation services across Ukraine and strengthen collaboration among all stakeholders involved.
