Ukraine and the EU - discussion of the return of children
Діалог між Україною та ЄС про повернення дітей: які нові підходи буде впроваджено.

During the official visit to Strasbourg, a delegation from the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine participated in the 8th plenary session of the Council of Europe Advisory Group on Ukrainian Children (CGU). This is a key platform that brings together Ukrainian institutions, EU countries, the Council of Europe, and international experts to coordinate decisions concerning the protection of children affected by war.

During her speech, First Deputy Minister Liudmyla Shemelynets spoke about the current situation regarding the return of Ukrainian children from European countries and the creation of conditions for their reintegration into a family or family-like environment. 'Our primary task is to ensure the individual needs of children, create conditions for their return to a safe environment, and provide a complete package of support at their place of residence. This is only possible with close coordination with receiving countries and support from our international partners,' emphasized the First Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine.

The Ukrainian approach to child protection

Ukraine is developing an approach where key elements include: personal assessment of each child's needs, prioritization of family environments, and coordinated interaction between state services and receiving countries. A special focus is on monitoring the conditions of children abroad, including access to all necessary services. 'Consolidation of efforts by the state, partners, civil society, and receiving countries is the guarantee that every Ukrainian child will feel protected and supported. I thank our partners for the meaningful dialogue within the platform and for supporting Ukraine on issues related to the safety and well-being of children,' concluded Liudmyla Shemelynets.

The participation of the Ukrainian delegation in the plenary session of the Council of Europe Advisory Group highlights the importance of cooperation between countries to protect children affected by war and conflict. The development of the Ukrainian approach to child protection and cooperation with international partners contributes to creating a safe environment for every Ukrainian child in need of support and protection.
