A 21-year-old girl and her 38-year-old partner received an advance payment of 8 thousand hryvnias for the deal. The child was born on January 1, and the arrest took place on January 2 after the transfer of the infant.

The sale price of the child was 10 thousand dollars, which exceeds 420 thousand hryvnias. This case occurred against the backdrop of mentions of criminal schemes for selling infants, which were uncovered by police in August 2023. At that time, law enforcement discovered that the service for transporting children abroad cost up to 70 thousand euros, and mothers were promised a payment of 12 thousand euros, but often this money was not paid.

Other cases of human trafficking

Additionally, recently a 35-year-old resident of Sumy Oblast was arrested for attempting to sell her newborn child for 30 thousand dollars. These cases indicate serious problems related to human trafficking and the protection of children's rights in Ukraine.

These incidents highlight deep social issues in Ukraine related to economic instability and the lack of adequate support for young mothers. The increase in cases of human trafficking, particularly the sale of infants, raises concerns in society and among human rights activists who urge for strengthened measures to protect children and support families in difficult situations.
