The incident occurred around 10:30 PM local time on Tuesday when a failure in the GSM-R digital railway radio system was detected. This affected long-distance and regional services, as well as the S-Bahn network, leaving Berlin's S-Bahn completely immobilized.

Services resumed roughly two hours after the halt. By 1:00 AM, the company confirmed the issue had been fully resolved.

“We managed to stabilize the situation using an emergency system,” said Evelin Palla, a Deutsche Bahn spokesperson.

The company also stated:

“Our IT specialists worked tirelessly to fix the problem-and they succeeded.”
