In Germany, the rules for receiving social assistance have been tightened, which already affects Ukrainians under temporary protection. Now, refusal of an offered job can lead to loss of benefits starting from the first instance. This is reported by "Visit Ukraine".

Payments to Ukrainians in Germany: What changed in 2026

The new rules came into effect on April 22, 2026. They imply stricter control from employment centers over unemployed individuals who refuse employment.

This concerns vacancies that correspond to:

  • education

  • professional skills

  • health status.

In case of refusal of such work, it is no longer considered acceptable. Employment centers can immediately impose sanctions without notice.

Social assistance in Germany: who will lose payments

Ukrainians who are in the country under temporary protection and receive social assistance fall under the new restrictions.

In case of violation of the rules, the following are at risk:

  • basic cash benefits

  • housing compensation

  • other types of state support.

Previously, the system had a grace period, but it has now been abolished. Decisions to terminate assistance can be made much faster.

The changes are part of a broader policy to strengthen control over social assistance recipients. The authorities aim to stimulate faster employment and reduce the burden on the budget.

Let us remind you that from June 1, 2026, unemployment benefits will increase in Poland for all registered individuals.
