In Poland, they want to replace 800 Plus with a minimum wage payment: who can receive it

In Poland, there are discussions about replacing part of the payments under the 800 Plus program with a new parental allowance. Its amount is proposed to be equal to the minimum salary, that is, 4806 zlotys gross per month. This is not a decision that has been made, but rather an initiative from a civic association. This is reported by InPoland.

Replacement of 800 Plus in Poland: who is offered the payment of 4806 zlotys

The idea was presented by the association «Rozwój Plus», founded by the former Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki. It proposes to introduce a so-called parental allowance as one of the steps to improve the demographic situation in the country.

According to the authors' plan, the payment would be received by one of the child's parents from birth to three years of age. Its amount would correspond to the current minimum salary, which is currently 4806 zlotys gross.

From this amount, taxes and contributions for social and health insurance would be deducted. The authors of the initiative believe that this could also affect the future pension of the father or mother, as the period of childcare would be taken into account in the insurance period.

Parental allowance in Poland could replace part of other programs

The financing of the new payment is proposed through the abolition or change of existing support mechanisms for families. Among them are 800 Plus for children up to three years and a program known in Poland as «grandparental».

Currently, the program «Rodzina 800+» remains active: the state pays 800 zlotys per month for each child under 18 years old regardless of the family's income. Applications for the period of 2026-2027 are accepted by ZUS, and payments are scheduled to start from June 1, 2026. This was reported by the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy of Poland.

For Ukrainians with UKR status, additional conditions apply. From February 1, 2026, the right to 800 Plus will depend, among other things, on employment or running a business in Poland. A school-aged child must also be studying in the Polish education system. Clarifications for Ukrainian citizens have been published by the Polish ministry.

Will 800 Plus be canceled in Poland soon

Currently, there are no official decisions regarding the cancellation of 800 Plus or the introduction of a payment equal to the minimum salary. The proposal from «Rozwój Plus» has not yet become a government bill.

Therefore, parents who are already receiving 800 Plus do not need to reapply or wait for a change in the amount. The rules of the program remain in effect until the Polish parliament adopts other regulations.
