Prague Launches Europe’s Third Ukrainian Unity Center Amid Growing Community Support

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: On September 11, Prague officially inaugurated the Ukrainian Unity Center, marking it as the third such facility established in Europe after Berlin and Stockholm. This milestone holds great significance for the Ukrainian population in the Czech Republic, which is among the largest Ukrainian communities within the European Union. According to the Ministry of Social Policy, Family, and Unity of Ukraine, the Czech Republic leads the EU in the proportion of people under temporary protection relative to its total population.

Currently, nearly 400,000 Ukrainians benefit from temporary protection status in the Czech Republic, placing the country among the top three in the EU with the highest numbers under this status. Overall, Eurostat reports that approximately 4.4 million Ukrainians have received temporary protection across EU member states.

The Prague-based Ukrainian Unity Center, known as Unity Hub Prague, operates within the Ukrainian Consultation and Community Center, which is soon to celebrate its first anniversary. The center offers vital support services including advice on residency, integration into Czech society, voluntary return, and reintegration in Ukraine. Additionally, it provides guidance on accessing Ukrainian government services such as pension systems, military registration, and electronic signature issuance.

Center’s Role and Community Impact

Unity Hub Prague is also set to host a variety of informational, cultural, and educational events, as well as networking and community initiatives aimed at strengthening the Ukrainian diaspora in the Czech Republic.

Ilona Havronska emphasized, “Hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians now live in the Czech Republic. Many are working, studying, and raising families here. It is crucial for Ukraine that, regardless of where people currently reside or what their future plans are, they maintain a connection to their homeland. The Unity Center in Prague is designed to be a hub for that connection-a place where individuals can access essential information, engage with the Ukrainian community, explore opportunities in Ukraine, and feel closer to home.”

Ilva Johansson also highlighted, “While Ukrainians need protection, they also bring tremendous energy, creativity, and potential to shape the future. Moving forward, it’s vital to create more opportunities enabling Ukrainians to influence their own futures, ours collectively, and the rebuilding of Ukraine. The Unity Center in Prague, along with the entire Unity Network, plays a crucial role in this process.”
