Zelensky met with the Pope: discussed peace and the return of children
According to МЗС: During the visit of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to Italy, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha took part in an audience with Pope Leo XIV, which took place in the Papal Palace in Castel Gandolfo.
The head of state informed the Pope about the diplomatic work with the United States aimed at achieving a decent and guaranteed peace. The parties also discussed further efforts to return Ukrainian children abducted by Russia.
Support for Ukraine from the Pope
'Ukraine is deeply grateful to Pope Leo XIV for his constant support of the Ukrainian people and prayers for the swift end of the Russian war against Ukraine.'
In addition, Minister Andriy Sybiha conducted phone negotiations with Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani during his visit. The Ukrainian Foreign Minister informed his colleague about peace efforts and the difficult situation on the battlefield and in the energy sector due to increased Russian attacks.
Diplomats discussed the important role of Italy and other European partners in promoting peace initiatives and supporting Ukraine on this path, as well as touching on urgent decisions regarding strengthening Ukraine and increasing pressure on Russia.

During the meeting of Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha with the Pope, current issues of diplomacy and cooperation between Ukraine and Italy were discussed. The Pope expressed support for Ukraine in its struggle for peace and independence, which is an important signal for the international community.
