According to Главком: A 36-year-old man has been detained in Rivne for allegedly setting his 74-year-old father on fire, leading to the father's death. The incident, which stemmed from a dispute over money, saw the son douse his father in gasoline and ignite it. The tragedy occurred in the family home, where the suspect's mother was also present at the time. Such domestic violence cases are a grim reminder of the social tensions that can erupt within families.
Firefighters responding to the blaze that erupted in the apartment evacuated 35 residents from the building. Although the fire was extinguished, the 74-year-old man died at the scene. The detained suspect has been placed in a temporary holding facility, and biological samples have been taken to determine if he was under the influence of alcohol.
Pre-Trial Investigation Underway
A pre-trial investigation is currently in progress. Law enforcement officials are deciding on formal suspicion notices and determining pre-trial restraint measures. The detention was carried out in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
