Russian Railways Introduces 'Frontline Menu' for May 9 Commemorations

According to Главком: To mark the 80th anniversary of the Allied victory in World War II, Russian Railways (RZD) has rolled out a special 'frontline menu' onboard its trains. Passengers traveling on the high-speed Sapsan service on May 9 and 10 will be able to sample soldier's porridge. Additionally, the promotion will run until May 19 in the bistro cars of trains operated by the Federal Passenger Company.

Field Kitchen Dishes

As part of this themed menu, travelers will have the chance to try a selection of field kitchen dishes, including:

  • navy-style macaroni
  • frontline cabbage soup
  • soldier's porridge
  • a rye bread platter with herring
  • pearl barley with canned meat stew
  • potato cake

These meals are designed to evoke the atmosphere of wartime military rations.

Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated he had no information confirming that leaders from 20 countries would attend the May 9 events in Moscow. According to the weather forecast, Moscow will see daytime temperatures of +13 to +15°C with rain on that day.

The launch of the frontline menu is part of RZD's effort to underscore the significance of May 9, a date with deep historical resonance in Russia. This initiative can be seen as part of a broader push to promote patriotic values amid the current political climate. At the same time, the uncertainty surrounding international leaders' attendance at the celebrations may reflect shifting global support or interest, highlighting contemporary geopolitical dynamics.
