Witnesses report that she howls immediately following a moment of silence and also vocalizes during the Ukrainian national anthem. Pashka first appeared in Shepetivka in the spring of 2025 and quickly captured the hearts of local residents. A local shop owner built her a wooden doghouse, reflecting the community's affection and care.

Pashka has become an integral part of farewell ceremonies for deceased soldiers. Locals say her presence adds a profound emotional depth to these events.

“There was a moment of silence. I stopped, and she whined the entire minute. It was as if she was grieving for those warriors. During the moment of silence, she is quiet, but when the anthem plays, she truly sings, hitting the notes perfectly” - Anastasiia, a retiree.

Pashka is often joined by another dog at these ceremonies, forming a duo that deeply moves everyone present.

“When our defenders are being buried, there is another dog here, and the two of them together are simply a tandem. And the tone is completely different, completely different. It gives you goosebumps when they see off our defenders like that” - Tetiana, a shop assistant.

Beyond Shepetivka, symbolic moments during farewells for fallen soldiers have also been reported in the Volyn region. During the funeral of soldier Mykola Andriichuk, a stork appeared on the road in the village of Vorotniv, marking a significant moment for those in attendance.

Pashka, whose name is a blend of the Ukrainian words for 'patriot' and 'shawarma,' is known not only for her ceremonial behavior but also for her picky eating habits. “This is our Pashka. From the words patriot and shawarma, because she is a little piggy that everyone feeds. She is very picky with food; she won't just eat plain soup” - Anastasiia.

The local community has grown deeply attached to Pashka, and she is now widely recognized and loved. “At first, she wouldn't go to everyone, only to a few. But now she goes to everyone. Everyone knows and loves her. Everyone pets her. Even children come here several times” - Tetiana.
