Deep Strikes by Ukraine on Russia in August 2023

According to Мін. Оборони: In August 2023, Ukraine's deep strikes on Russia reached a maximum range of 1900 km. During this period, 12 major oil refineries (OR) were struck, with a total capacity of approximately 100 million tons of oil products per year. In addition, there were documented strikes on 2 gas processing and petrochemical enterprises, 3 large fuel terminals and oil depots, as well as 2 enterprises of the military-industrial complex (MIC).

Affected Objects

Among the affected facilities were:

  • 'Lukoil-Permnefteorgsintez'
  • 'Orsknefteorgsintez'
  • 'Tobolskneftekhim'

These enterprises are located approximately 1500 to 1900 km from the Ukrainian border. In particular, at the 'Kamenka Plant', two workshops were destroyed, while another four sustained significant damage.

These strikes indicate Ukraine's increasing ability to conduct long-range operations, which could have a substantial impact on Russia's energy security. Hitting key infrastructure objects highlights the strategic challenges facing the Russian economy, as well as potential repercussions for global energy markets. Such actions could prompt changes in military strategies and political decisions by both countries in the future.
