Switzerland convicted a citizen for service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine: what is known about the sentence

According to glavcom.ua: A Swiss citizen was convicted for serving in the military in Ukraine. The man admitted his participation in the Ukrainian army and received a suspended sentence of 18 months. He is currently in Israel and avoiding court.

The court in Switzerland decided the case regarding the participation of a 49-year-old Swiss citizen in the Ukrainian army. The man was accused of participating in military actions, which contradicts the laws of the country. Avi M. received a sentence of 18 months probation and a four-year probationary period. During his service, he acted as a sniper, which was controversial for Swiss legislation.

“My main motivation has always been the same: I do not want to pack small children in plastic bags anymore. And if my work means one less child, it is already worth it. Many things that would be right are illegal.”

The court also had additional evidence in the form of Instagram photos and media publications confirming the Swiss citizen's participation in the Ukrainian army. It is noteworthy that by 2025, volunteers from different countries participated in the war in Eastern Ukraine.
