Vinnytsia sees an increase in barrier-free trams: which route
In Vinnytsia, the second modernized tram Tram2000 with a low-floor section has begun test runs. The new vehicle is designed to make travel more comfortable for people with disabilities, parents with strollers, and elderly passengers. Currently, it operates on route No. 5 and is expected to switch to a permanent route soon. This is reported by the Vinnytsia City Council.
Barrier-free Tram2000 in Vinnytsia launched on route No. 5
Since June 12, the updated Tram2000 has been undergoing testing on route No. 5 "Electric Network – Baryske Highway". After completing the testing and checking all systems, it is planned to be transferred to route No. 4.
The main feature of the tram is a new low-floor section that is 7.5 meters long. It significantly simplifies boarding and alighting for passengers who find it difficult to use traditional high steps.
According to the city's mayor, Serhiy Morgunov, the development of barrier-free transport remains one of the community's priorities.
«It is important for us that every resident of the community can reach the hospital, work, school, or conduct their affairs without outside assistance,» he emphasized.
The modernization of Tram2000 lasted several months

Experts worked for several months on creating the second accessible tram. The front and rear parts of the vehicle were thoroughly repaired, the running gear was restored, and the engineering networks were checked.
After that, a new low-floor module was installed between the two sections. The electrical system of the tram was completely updated, new cables were laid, and the following were connected:
• information displays; • sound notification system; • lighting; • heating; • control system.
In addition, the low-floor part has been equipped with doors featuring an automatic retractable step, which helps align the entrance level with the platform.
Vinnytsia plans to manufacture three more accessible trams
After the work was completed, the tram underwent testing both at the depot and on the city tracks. Specialists checked the operation of brakes, doors, electrical equipment, and the smoothness of movement on different sections of the route.
The Vinnytsia transport company notes that the second project was implemented faster due to the experience gained during the modernization of the first tram.
By the end of 2026, Vinnytsia plans to retrofit three more Tram2000 trams with low-floor sections. Work on the next tram has already begun.
As a reminder, in Vinnytsia, transport fares could rise to 41 UAH.
