The city council in Zaporizhzhia did not support the return of free rides on electric transport
Free rides on trams and trolleybuses in Zaporizhzhia will not be restored for now. During the city council session, the deputies did not support the relevant draft decision which proposed to reinstate concessionary transport for all citizens amid rising tariffs and the difficult situation in the frontline city. This was reported by Zaporizhzhia city council deputy Anatoliy Kurtev.
Deputies did not support free rides in Zaporizhzhia
The issue of restoring free rides was discussed during the 37th session of the Zaporizhzhia city council.
The initiative proposed to resume free use of urban electric transport - trams and trolleybuses.
However, the majority of deputies did not support the draft resolution, so free rides in the city will not be implemented at this time.
They wanted to compensate for the increase in tariffs in Zaporizhzhia
The author of the initiative stated that in the conditions of a frontline city, free electric transport could provide additional social support for residents.
This issue became particularly relevant after the recent increase in fare prices, which was approved by the city council executive committee.
In the opinion of the deputy, abolishing payment for the use of trams and trolleybuses would help partially reduce the financial burden on people.
The deputy promises to continue the fight for concessionary transport
After the vote, Anatoliy Kurtev urged Zaporizhzhia residents to contact deputies on social media and demand explanations regarding their positions during the vote.
He also stated that he would continue to strive for the return of free rides on electric transport.
In the context of the war and the difficult economic situation, the issue of public transport tariffs remains one of the most sensitive for residents of frontline cities in Ukraine.
It is worth noting that in Zaporizhzhia, they plan to increase funding for the electric transport development program by almost 900 million hryvnias.
