According to Главком: Authorities in Zhydachiv are investigating the vandalism of the grave of Taras Matviiv, a Ukrainian Hero and journalist, and are working to identify those responsible. The incident at the city cemetery came to light on June 7 around 3:30 PM, reported by the parents of the fallen soldier. The victim’s mother filed a police complaint regarding the desecration of her son’s grave, providing photographic and video evidence.

Unknown individuals removed solar panels from the lamp covers and stole two floodlights that were used to illuminate the monument. Taras Matviiv was a Ukrainian journalist, public activist, and military serviceman, serving as a junior lieutenant in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He died on July 10, 2020, in the Luhansk region during a mortar attack while rescuing his comrades from a burning bunker. For his heroic actions, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine and received the Order of the Gold Star.
