Suspect Apprehended in Zhytomyr Attack

According to Главком: Authorities in Zhytomyr have arrested a man who attacked pedestrians with a knife, leaving two people seriously injured. The suspect was already on the wanted list for going AWOL (absent without leave) from a military unit. He now faces charges of attempted murder.

The incident unfolded after police received an emergency call about an assault. Arriving at the scene, officers spotted the armed individual and ordered him to drop the knife.

“The officers stopped at a safe distance, drew their service weapons, and commanded him to throw the knife to the ground. He complied with the lawful orders, after which the suspected attacker was handcuffed and taken into custody,” Ukraine’s Patrol Police reported.

A separate patrol unit discovered the victims nearby. One of them had lost a significant amount of blood, prompting officers to quickly apply a tourniquet and occlusive dressings.

“The inspectors immediately went to the location and found the victim. He had lost a lot of blood, so the patrol officers swiftly applied a tourniquet and occlusive dressings. They monitored his condition until medics arrived, and he was later hospitalized,” police added.

The detained individual has been formally charged with attempted premeditated murder. An investigation is currently underway.
