According to Главком: Ukraine's Armed Forces have formed a new command dedicated to unmanned air defense systems. This strategic reorganization aims to counter Russian attack drones, such as the 'Shahed' models, more effectively. Hundreds of drone operator crews have been placed under the operational control of the Air Force grouping. This move is part of broader strategic changes designed to enhance the nation's defensive capabilities in modern warfare, reflecting the critical role of drone warfare in the conflict.

These drone crews operate across multiple interception layers, which helps mitigate the risks from enemy air assaults. Since the war began, army aviation units have successfully destroyed 5,830 aerial attack assets. In December 2025, the Defense Procurement Agency reported that nearly 950 interceptor drones were being delivered to the military on average each day, highlighting the scale of this domestic effort.

International Aid and Evolving Threats

International support continues to bolster Ukraine's air defenses. Sweden and Denmark have decided to provide Ukraine with air defense systems, funding over €246 million in weapons purchases.
