The law also establishes how much living space qualifies and which family members can benefit as well.

The housing break applies within specific limits: 21 square meters of total floor area per person who permanently resides in the home and qualifies for the discount, plus another 10.5 square meters for the household as a whole. In households made up exclusively of people unable to work-where war veterans or victims of Nazi persecution live-the standard for natural gas used for individual heating is 42 square meters of heated space per person, plus an additional 21 square meters per family. The utility discount applies not only to the veteran but also to relatives living in the same home. Those relatives include:

• a spouse
• children under 18
• unmarried adult children with a childhood disability (Group I or II) or with a Group I disability
• a person who cares for an individual with a Group I war-related disability, as long as that individual is not married
• parents who are unable to work
• someone under the veteran's guardianship or care

In addition, combat veterans can receive a 75% reduction on the price of solid household heating fuel, including liquid fuel, within the minimum supply standards and maximum cost threshold established for homes that have no other type of heating. Taken together, these measures substantially reduce the financial burden faced by veterans and their households.
