Power Grid Strike on June 2: Which Areas Remain Without Electricity as of the Morning of June 5
Current Status of Ukraine’s Energy System
According to Главком: As of the morning of June 5, Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy has provided an update on the state of the country’s power grid. Ongoing hostilities and shelling have left customers in the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, and Kharkiv regions without electricity. In addition, severe weather has caused blackouts in three communities within the Sumy region.
On June 4, Russian forces targeted a vehicle belonging to Sumyoblenergo. Earlier, during the night of June 2, a large-scale combined attack struck Ukraine’s energy and oil-and-gas infrastructure. The primary focus of the assault was Kyiv, temporarily cutting power to some consumers in the capital and seven other regions. The cities of Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and the Poltava area also came under fire. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, this attack resulted in 13 fatalities and left over 100 people injured.
Power Restoration Efforts
Energy workers are continuing their efforts to restore electricity. As stated by Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy:
“Energy workers are doing everything possible to bring power back to all customers as quickly as they can. Restoration work is ongoing around the clock.”
No electricity restrictions are expected today. Consumers are advised to monitor official updates from their local distribution system operators for any changes.
The situation in Ukraine’s energy system remains challenging due to ongoing combat operations, which heavily impact power supply in multiple regions. These attacks on energy infrastructure highlight the adversary’s strategic objectives, threatening not only electricity delivery but also the safety of civilians. Amid the war, a swift response from energy workers to restore power is critical to minimizing harm to the population and ensuring the grid’s stability.
