Defense Forces' Strike Drones Target Ufa Industrial Area, Causing Explosions and Fires at Two Oil Refineries
Drone Assault Hits Ufa’s Industrial Hub
According to ХВИЛЯ: On the morning of October 31, strike drones deployed by the Defense Forces carried out an attack on Ufa’s industrial district in the Republic of Bashkortostan. This assault triggered explosions and fires at two major oil refineries. According to Exilenova+, three separate fires broke out within the industrial zone. The area is home to three key oil processing plants:
- Bashneft-UNPZ
- Bashneft-Novoyl
- Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim
Together, these facilities have a combined refining capacity of 23.5 million tons of oil annually.
Security Measures and Impact
Following the attacks, local authorities declared a drone threat alert and temporarily restricted flight operations at Ufa’s airport. Russia’s Ministry of Defense reported intercepting drones over Bashkortostan during the incident. This event follows a previous drone strike on August 19, when Ukrainian drones targeted the Bashneft-UNPZ refinery, damaging the AVT-6 primary oil processing unit.
These incidents are part of the ongoing escalation in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which has increasingly seen strategic infrastructure come under attack across various regions. Strikes on oil refineries pose significant risks to Russia’s energy security and contribute to regional instability. Local officials are taking measures to bolster security, but the frequency of these attacks suggests the situation may further deteriorate.
The recent attack on Ufa’s industrial area is part of a troubling trend of drone strikes targeting critical infrastructure in Russia. For instance, a similar incident occurred at the Novokuibyshevsk refinery in the Samara region, where a drone strike led to a significant fire, highlighting the ongoing threats faced by these facilities.
