Diesel Fuel Supply to Ukraine Disrupted

According to Главком: Hungary has suspended its supply of diesel fuel to Ukraine. This decision is a direct result of the halted transit of Russian oil through the strategic Druzhba pipeline. Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó stated that exports to Ukraine will not resume until oil shipments via this pipeline are restored. This development underscores the complex energy interdependencies in Eastern Europe, where infrastructure built during the Soviet era remains critically important.

Strategic Reserves and New Supply Routes

Hungary maintains strategic oil reserves sufficient for approximately 96 days. To meet its domestic needs, the Hungarian energy company MOL has ordered its first shipments of Russian oil for delivery by sea via Croatia. However, Croatia has refused to allow the transit of this Russian oil through the Adria pipeline, a request made jointly by Hungary and Slovakia.

Consequently, the situation regarding diesel supplies to Ukraine remains tense, with the resumption of oil flow through the Druzhba pipeline being the key factor for restoring Hungarian exports.

This news highlights the Druzhba pipeline's crucial role in regional energy security, as its stoppage impacts not only Hungary but also fuel supplies to Ukraine.

Given the limited options for importing oil from alternative sources, Ukraine must seek other pathways to secure its energy needs and avoid potential fuel shortages.
