Hungary Summons Russian Envoy Over Shelling of Transcarpathia
Anita Orbán Meets with Russia's Ambassador
According to Главком: Hungary's Foreign Minister, Anita Orbán, summoned Russia's ambassador to Budapest, Evgeny Stanislavov, following a large-scale attack on Transcarpathia on May 13. Orbán stressed that the assault is completely unacceptable, as it threatens regional security and the Hungarian minority. The Hungarian government has strongly condemned the attack.
The roughly 30-minute meeting took place amid reports of at least five Russian drone strikes on Transcarpathian territory. On May 13, Russia launched a massive combined attack on Ukraine, also targeting Lutsk, Kovel, Kolomyia, and Khmelnytskyi. Debris from one drone fell on an open area in Kyiv's Obolon district.
I told the Russian ambassador that for Hungary, it is absolutely unacceptable that they are now attacking Transcarpathia, where the Hungarian minority lives... I emphasized that Russia must do everything to ensure an immediate ceasefire and the swiftest possible peaceful and lasting end to the war. - Anita Orbán
Regarding the situation, the Hungarian government firmly condemns Russia's attack on Transcarpathia, as stated by Péter Magyar.
Reactions to the Events
It is also worth noting that the Russian government has made no public statements regarding the ambassador's summons. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the massive drone attack, warning that occupiers could launch missiles at Ukraine after all waves of drones. These events underscore the regional tension and the challenges faced by neighboring countries.
