Discussion of Peter Zeihan’s Book and Ukraine’s Role in European Security

According to ХВИЛЯ: During a broadcast with Yuriy Romanenko, political analyst Viktor Andrusiv explored the implications of Peter Zeihan’s book 'The End of the World Is Just the Beginning: Mapping the Collapse of Globalization.' He emphasized that Ukraine now faces a historic window to become the chief architect of European security in the wake of a U.S. withdrawal. Andrusiv pointed out a critical shortcoming: the state system’s inability to organize itself and capture market opportunities, resulting in missed chances-particularly in arms exports and the establishment of private military companies.

Andrusiv highlighted that Ukraine’s battlefield experience and its development of next-generation defense technologies could serve as the foundation for a future leadership role in European security. He drew a parallel between Ukraine’s potential and South Korea’s economic leap in the last century, noting that both countries encountered a massive historic opportunity when global conditions shifted.

'The world taking shape mirrors South Korea’s story-when an era collapsed, it created a colossal historic chance for them.' Viktor Andrusiv

However, the analyst also stressed serious obstacles. 'There’s one crucial point where I disagree with Zeihan. The key objective factor remains organization-because it doesn’t matter what you have if you can’t get organized; you’ll end up with nothing,' he added. Andrusiv noted that Ukraine’s arms exports remain blocked and that private military companies have yet to be established, causing the country to lose ground in capturing market niches.

  • Our private military companies could offer systems to shoot down 'Shahed' drones abroad.
  • That would generate earned revenue flowing into Ukraine, not just loans.

In sum, Andrusiv called for Ukraine to reorganize and adapt to a new era of global instability, or risk squandering its chance to become a key player in Europe’s security landscape.

His remarks underscore the need for a strategic approach to developing Ukraine’s defense industry amid ongoing global shifts. Successfully implementing the ideas he outlined could not only bolster the country’s security but also drive economic growth-a critical necessity given today’s challenges. Ukraine must find optimal ways to leverage its existing resources and experience to become an active force in shaping Europe’s future security system.
