Ukraine's participation in the 2026 Winter Olympics
According to Главком: Ukraine has announced its flag bearers for the 2026 Winter Olympics, which will take place on February 6 in Milan. The flag of the country will be carried by 21-year-old short track skater Yelizaveta Sydyorka, who will become the youngest Ukrainian short track skater to represent Ukraine at the Olympic Games. In addition to Sydyorka, other athletes in various disciplines will also participate in the Ukrainian team.
Anna Mari Dancha, another representative of Ukraine, will carry the country’s placard in Livigno. Dancha showcased good results, finishing fourth at the World Cup stage in Davos at the end of 2025. According to information, Yevhen Marusyak will represent Ukraine in Predazzo.
The first flag bearer of Ukraine at the 2026 Olympics was Vladyslav Geraskevych. It is worth noting that Ukrainian short trackers have already obtained two Olympic licenses:
- Oleh Handei finished 23rd in the 500 m distance
- Yelizaveta Sydyorka qualified for the same distance
The last time a Ukrainian short track skater competed in this discipline at the Olympic Games was in 1998. Thus, the Ukrainian team is preparing for participation in the 2026 Winter Olympics, hoping for successful performances from its athletes in Milan.
Revival of short track in Ukraine
The participation of Ukrainian athletes in the 2026 Olympic Games emphasizes the revival and development of short track in Ukraine, which may stimulate interest in this sport among the youth. In particular, the appointment of Yelizaveta Sydyorka as the flag bearer is a significant step that could inspire a new generation of athletes. The team’s successes in Milan are expected to be an important step in increasing the popularity of Olympic sports in Ukraine.
