IMF Extended Fund Facility for Ukraine Gets Green Light
According to НБУ: On July 20, 2026, the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved the first review of Ukraine's Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program, which totals $8.1 billion. This decision unlocks funding equivalent to 503 million Special Drawing Rights (SDRs), or roughly $690 million. With this latest disbursement, total financial support provided to Ukraine under the program will reach $2.2 billion.
Why This Program Matters for Ukraine
Structured as a four-year initiative, the program also concluded the IMF's Article IV consultation with Ukraine. The allocated funds are intended to bolster the country's state budget.
Andriy Pyshnyi, Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, stated: 'The work during the mission for the first review was among the most challenging. However, the Fund's experts and the Ukrainian team found the necessary common ground to continue the program.'
He further emphasized that cooperation with the IMF represents a critical partnership, underpinning a robust and sustainable framework of assistance for Ukraine throughout the war. He noted that the IMF's approach to program implementation remains dynamic, adapting to evolving circumstances.
The approval of the IMF's extended financing program marks a significant milestone for Ukraine, as it helps ensure financial system stability and supports the state budget amid the ongoing conflict. This move also signals that international partners remain committed to backing Ukraine, which could bolster investor confidence and aid economic recovery. Continued engagement with the IMF is essential for securing additional financial resources and advancing economic reforms in the country.
