According to ХВИЛЯ: The United Kingdom is opening up sensitive technical information on British-made components of the long-range SCALP cruise missile to Ukraine. The aim is to establish Ukrainian production lines for these weapons. The move reflects a broader Western shift toward helping Kyiv manufacture its own arms. Andy Burnham's office confirmed the decision ahead of his first trip to Kyiv as Prime Minister.

London has authorised MBDA, the European missile manufacturer, to hand over classified material on SCALP components. SCALP is France's designation for the weapon also known as Britain's Storm Shadow; both share French and British technology. Burnham is expected in Kyiv today for talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky and a session of the "Coalition of the Willing," a group of nations backing Ukraine.

Building Ukraine's own missile capacity

Earlier reports said the United States and the G7 had approved Ukrainian licensed production of long-range missiles. Britain is also developing inexpensive missiles for Ukraine that rely on no American parts.

"Ukraine's security is our security," Burnham said.

Giving Ukraine access to SCALP technical files marks a significant step in strengthening its defenses: it would enable the country not just to absorb new technology but to nurture domestic manufacturing.
