Japan Allocates $51.5 Million to Boost Ukraine’s Healthcare System Through THRIVE Project

Funding Boost for the THRIVE Initiative

According to Мінфін: The Government of Japan has contributed $51.5 million to Ukraine as part of the World Bank-supported project, 'Transformation of Healthcare through Reform and Investment in Efficiency' (THRIVE). These funds were transferred to Ukraine’s State Budget general fund via the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) from the targeted ADVANCE Ukraine fund. The THRIVE project is financed under a Program-for-Results model, which releases funds based on achieving specific performance indicators.

This latest tranche was unlocked due to a rise in successfully treated stroke cases with a high adoption of thrombolysis therapy. The overall THRIVE program is valued at $1.2 billion, with $449 million allocated so far. The initiative’s core objective is to assist the Ukrainian Government in enhancing the effectiveness of its Medical Guarantees Program (MGP).
