Ukraine Receives Black Sea Shipping Security Proposals from Egypt, India, and Turkey, Awaits Russia’s Response

Ensuring Safe Navigation in the Black Sea

According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukraine has been presented with security proposals for maritime navigation in the Black Sea by Egypt, India, and Turkey. President Volodymyr Zelensky shared this update at the sixth International Crimea Platform Summit held in New York. Currently, Ukraine is waiting for Russia to respond to these suggested measures. Zelensky emphasized the critical role of maintaining a food corridor in the Black Sea and the export of essential goods vital to global markets.

The 2023 International Crimea Platform Summit brought together over 60 participants, including 16 world leaders from multiple continents. This year’s gathering was notable for the first-time participation of representatives from Panama and Trinidad and Tobago. Zelensky highlighted that Russia’s war against Ukraine began with the 2014 annexation of Crimea and reiterated Ukraine’s determination to hold Russia accountable for its aggression and territorial seizures.

Regional Challenges and Global Support

Addressing the wider regional instability, Zelensky pointed to ongoing crises linked to conflicts involving Iran and tensions in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf. He expressed gratitude to Europe, the United States, Turkey, and Egypt for their support amid these complex challenges.

"Egypt, India, and Turkey have already provided us with draft proposals. These exist on paper. We agree with the path that can ensure security. Now, we await Russia’s reply." Volodymyr Zelensky

The Ukrainian president also stressed the need for Russia to respect international law and human life. "We have to start somewhere, and Russia must begin by respecting others. Basic respect for the world begins with simple matters: food security, energy security, and the right for people to live without fear," he stated. Zelensky further asserted that "a full return to normalcy is impossible without Crimea, without restoring security, and protecting lives and citizens."

He pointed out that Crimea remains at the heart of Putin’s war and the crises triggered by military actions in the Black Sea. "If Russia had not stolen Crimea and turned it into a source of conflict and a massive military base, grain, fertilizers, diesel, and oil would still be freely transported across the Black Sea as they were before Putin’s war against us began," Zelensky said.

Summing up, the president stressed that "territorial integrity matters, sovereign statehood matters, people’s lives matter, and Russia must come to terms with this."

The fact that Egypt, India, and Turkey have offered security proposals highlights the broad international backing Ukraine receives amid ongoing military threats from Russia.
