According to 5 канал: Amid the ongoing war with Russia, Ukraine is deepening its defense partnerships. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has announced plans to establish a drone manufacturing facility in the United Kingdom, relying on innovative technologies. The disclosure came after a telephone discussion with Britain's new Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, during which a proposed "Drone Deal" was outlined, focusing on three core areas:

  • financing,
  • technology,
  • training.

Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine already possesses expertise in rocket production and is keen to manufacture British Storm Shadow missiles-or their equivalents-on its own soil. He noted, "The technologies we need are already in both Ukraine and the UK. Ukraine has strong missiles, but the British Storm Shadow is powerful, and we want to produce them or something similar."

Additionally, the United Kingdom has expressed interest in acquiring Ukrainian drone technology, particularly for maritime drones, highlighting further potential for bilateral cooperation.

Joint European Anti-Ballistic Defense System

The phone conversation also covered the possibility of a joint European anti-ballistic missile system. According to Zelenskyy, "The United Kingdom does not have anti-ballistic air defense." He believes both countries can collaborate on this front. This discussion gained urgency after July 13, when the UK joined a European support program for Ukraine totaling €90 billion.

Zelenskyy also acknowledged financial assistance already provided by the UK, specifically for new equipment to bolster Ukraine's energy grid. "Britain has helped us with that, and we are ready-drawing on all our experience-to share with Britain whatever it may need," he said, underlining the importance of bilateral relations.

The Ukrainian president expressed optimism about a forthcoming in-person meeting with Prime Minister Starmer, noting, "I had a very good telephone call with the new British Prime Minister. I hope we will have a productive bilateral meeting." These initiatives reflect Ukraine’s drive to enhance its defense capabilities and deepen technological and security cooperation with the United Kingdom. Joint projects such as drone manufacturing and anti-ballistic system development could significantly boost both nations' defenses against modern threats, while also underscoring the value of international alliances in an era of global instability.

In light of this significant announcement, the recent first conversation between Ukraine's President and the UK's new Prime Minister sheds light on the evolving defense collaborations between the two nations. This dialogue not only set the stage for the drone manufacturing initiative but also highlighted the growing urgency for joint military support amidst escalating regional tensions.
