Modern Learning Spaces Initiative

According to Главком: A new project called Modern Learning Spaces, launched by Ukraine's Ministry of Education and Science alongside partners including Metinvest Group and DTEK, aims to establish cutting-edge STEM environments in academic lyceums nationwide. In 2026, the ministry plans to invest 1.9 billion hryvnias to outfit roughly 250 educational institutions, giving students access to the latest learning technologies and resources. This effort comes as Ukraine seeks to rebuild its education system amid ongoing challenges.

Metinvest Group and DTEK jointly funded a dedicated support team, contributing approximately 11 million hryvnias. Under the plan, 143 pilot academic lyceums will begin operating in upgraded learning spaces by September 1, 2026, aligning with modern educational and developmental standards.

Expected Outcomes

By late 2026, project partners plan to release the first public report detailing the initiative's results. Education and Science Minister Oksen Lisovyi commented:

“Ukraine needs engineers, technologists, researchers, and specialists who will create solutions for rebuilding the country, driving economic growth, and strengthening security.”

This highlights the critical need to train a new generation of science and technology professionals. Tetiana Petruk, a Metinvest Group representative, added:

“The future of Ukrainian industry is being shaped today in schools, laboratories, and universities. We aim to cultivate a new cohort of engineers that both the modern economy and Ukraine's future reconstruction demand.”

Since February 24, 2022, Metinvest Group has invested over 28 billion hryvnias in education and new initiatives, including Steel Force, all focused on developing skilled specialists.

The Modern Learning Spaces project represents a major step in modernizing Ukraine's educational infrastructure, addressing the needs of a contemporary economy. Through the combined efforts of the Ministry of Education and Science, Metinvest Group, and DTEK, Ukrainian students will gain the opportunity to learn in state-of-the-art facilities, ultimately supporting the nation's broader development.

This initiative could significantly enhance the quality of education in Ukraine, especially in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. Creating modern learning spaces will not only improve the educational experience but also prepare students for the demands of today's job market-a crucial factor for Ukraine's economic recovery and future growth.

As Ukraine invests significantly in educational advancements, it is also essential to focus on the development of local leadership. A recent initiative has successfully trained over 230 local leaders through the Community Recovery School, emphasizing the importance of strong governance in rebuilding efforts. This parallel investment in leadership and education underscores a comprehensive approach to fostering a resilient future for the nation.
