European Fire and Rescue Sports Championship Gets Underway in Ostrava

According to ДСНС: The European Fire and Rescue Sports Championship has officially launched in Ostrava, Czech Republic, and will run from 17 to 23 August 2026. Athletes from ten countries are competing, with Ukraine represented by men's, women's, and youth teams from the State Emergency Service (DSNS). The programme includes four events. Fire-applied sport is a demanding niche discipline that tests the speed, agility, and technical precision of rescue personnel.

Participating Countries

The national squads come from the Czech Republic, Germany, Croatia, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Austria, Romania, Poland, Moldova, and Ukraine. At the formal opening ceremony, Ukrainian athletes had already clocked results in the assault-ladder climb. Meanwhile, rescuers from across Ukraine recorded video messages to support their colleagues on the team.

The championship events are:

  • assault ladder climb into a window of a training tower,
  • 100-metre obstacle course,
  • 4×100-metre fire relay,
  • combat deployment from a motor pump.

Ukraine's participation in this European championship underscores the importance of international collaboration in safety and rescue training. The competition enables participating countries to share experience and gives Ukrainian athletes an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities at the European level. Given today's challenges, including natural disasters and emergencies, well-prepared rescue services are essential to protecting communities.
