Advancing Humanitarian Demining Collaboration Between Ukraine and Azerbaijan

A key meeting took place between Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Dmytro Panshyn and Vugar Suleymanov, Chair of Azerbaijan’s National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), where they explored opportunities for expanded joint initiatives and knowledge sharing.

Ukraine expressed strong interest in learning from Azerbaijan’s experience in urban humanitarian demining and preparing affected areas for reconstruction. Additionally, Ukraine invited ANAMA to participate in the upcoming Mine Action Conference in Ukraine (UMAC 2026), scheduled for mid-November in Brussels.

During talks with Roger Khoury, Director of Lebanon’s Mine Action Center, both sides exchanged insights on land restoration and recovery from conflict-related contamination. Negotiations are ongoing to establish further technical cooperation between relevant Ukrainian and Lebanese institutions.

The proactive engagement of Ukraine with Azerbaijan and other mine-affected countries represents a vital step towards restoring safety and stability in liberated regions.
