Taras Vysotsky’s Official Visit to Egypt

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: Ukraine’s Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food, Taras Vysotsky, recently traveled to Egypt for high-level discussions with Khaled Ahmed Salah El-Din, Secretary-General of the Sustainable Development Agency 'Mostaqbal Misr.' Their talks centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation in food security, boosting Ukrainian agricultural exports, establishing a food hub in Egypt, and collaborating on irrigation systems and maritime logistics safety.

Between January and October 2026, Ukraine exported agricultural goods worth $825 million to Egypt, primarily consisting of grains such as wheat and corn. Egypt remains a crucial market for Ukrainian agricultural products. To deepen collaboration, both sides agreed to initiate a dedicated irrigation cooperation program aimed at sharing expertise and technical knowledge.

Key Areas of Collaboration

The concept of a Ukrainian food hub in Egypt has been under discussion since earlier meetings, including talks in February 2025. In July 2025, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi held a phone conversation emphasizing the importance of these ties. Last year, trade between Ukraine and Egypt exceeded $2 billion.

Taras Vysotsky highlighted the strategic nature of this partnership: "Egypt is a vital ally for Ukraine regarding food security. Our goal extends beyond maintaining traditional grain exports to building a sustainable, long-term partnership. A significant focus is on irrigation collaboration. Egypt’s experience with large-scale irrigation projects offers valuable insights for Ukraine’s efforts to restore and develop its land reclamation infrastructure. We have agreed to establish a separate framework for exchanging knowledge and advancing practical projects."

Moving forward, joint efforts will concentrate on food security, agricultural exports, the food hub initiative, irrigation cooperation, and ensuring maritime logistics safety.

Vysotsky’s visit underscores the growing strategic partnership between Ukraine and Egypt in addressing global food security challenges. Given Egypt’s status as one of the largest importers of Ukrainian agricultural products, strengthening this cooperation promises significant economic benefits for both nations. Furthermore, advancing irrigation projects is a critical step for Ukraine in rebuilding its agricultural infrastructure amid climate change and the increasing demand for sustainable food production.

As Ukraine strengthens its agricultural ties with Egypt, it's also crucial to consider the broader implications for its integration with the European Union. Recent discussions between President Zelensky and Prime Minister Costa in Madrid highlighted the importance of EU integration for Ukraine's future.
