Ukraine and the EU Against Putin's Plans: What Conditions Were Set for Negotiations with the Russian Federation

Europe and Ukraine Discuss Counter-Plan to Putin
Україна та Європейський Союз: що необхідно для успішного діалогу з Росією?

Ukraine, together with leading European countries, has developed a joint counter-proposal that serves as an alternative to Vladimir Putin's plan and Donald Trump's ideas for resolving the conflict in Ukraine. It is noted that this document was presented at a meeting in the UK, attended by national security advisors from Europe and Ukraine, as well as representatives from the USA.

The document sets clear 'red lines' for any negotiations with the Kremlin. Key requirements include an immediate ceasefire before any other steps are taken, the possibility of territorial exchanges only based on the principle of reciprocity - if Ukraine withdraws troops from a certain region, then Russia must withdraw from another - as well as providing Kyiv with strong security guarantees, including potential NATO membership, in the event of any territorial concessions.

Ukraine and Europe's proposal responds to unofficial ideas that emerged after an American businessman visited the Kremlin. According to WSJ, Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that Russia was willing to leave the occupied parts of Ukraine, but later expressed anger over this information, indicating that Moscow has no intention of withdrawing its troops.

Ukraine and Europe have demonstrated their ability to cooperate and developed an alternative to Putin and Trump's plans for resolving the conflict in Ukraine. The joint document outlines clear conditions for any negotiations with Russia, including an immediate ceasefire and a ban on territorial exchanges without adhering to the principle of reciprocity. It is now important to observe the further development of the situation and the response of the negotiating participants.
