According to ХВИЛЯ: Land routes through Moldova are becoming a vital workaround for Ukraine as Black Sea shipping faces Russia’s ongoing threat. Under a new arrangement, rail transit of Ukrainian goods across Moldovan territory will be charged at 50 percent of the usual rate. The reduced fee took effect on August 10 and remains valid until the end of 2026, as announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretskyi after talks with Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan.

The updated terms mean Ukrainian cargo can now use Moldova’s railway network at half the previous cost. Koretskyi stressed that the deal is especially significant for exporters dealing with Russian strikes in the Black Sea region.

In another development, the Kyiv–Chișinău train will adopt a new route starting August 17. According to Koretskyi, the change will make the transfer to Chișinău’s airport more comfortable and considerably quicker. He also thanked the Moldovan government for its decisions, which he said will foster bilateral cooperation. The Khvylia outlet carried the announcement.

The agreement is set to deliver a significant economic benefit to Ukrainian exporters, whose access to Black Sea ports remains limited.
