Ukraine and Germany to Produce 2,000 Bars Drones; Zelensky Highlights Advances in Missiles and Automated Turrets
Expanding Drone Capabilities and Cutting-Edge Defense Technology
According to 5 канал: President Volodymyr Zelensky announced a significant expansion of Ukraine’s interceptor drone program, focusing on the Bars drones, which currently achieve around 30% operational effectiveness. Together with Germany, Ukraine plans to manufacture 2,000 of these drones. Alongside this, a large-scale initiative to develop automated turrets is underway, with plans to deploy dozens across various strategic locations. Work is also progressing on several new types of small rockets, with initial test results expected in the latter half of October. Should these tests prove successful, Ukraine aims to rapidly increase rocket production.
Ongoing Diplomatic Efforts and International Support
Zelensky highlighted the continued Russian assaults targeting Ukrainian civilian and critical infrastructure, including postal operator warehouses, bridges, data centers, and mobile communication networks. In response, Ukraine is negotiating with the United States to organize a trilateral meeting with Russia before the end of October. Ukraine has expressed readiness to participate, with potential venues including the United Arab Emirates or other locations proposed by the U.S.
Germany recently extended a new aid package to Ukraine worth over €1.3 billion, encompassing military assistance, enhanced air defense capabilities, and energy support. On October 4, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz made an unannounced visit to Kyiv-his first since May 2025-where he was welcomed at the train station by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha.

These efforts also emphasize the crucial role of diplomacy in pursuing a peaceful resolution to the conflict, highlighted by the planned talks involving Russia.
As Ukraine ramps up its defense capabilities, the recent significant support package from Germany highlights the international commitment to bolster Ukraine’s military readiness. This collaboration not only addresses immediate defense needs but also underscores the strategic partnership between the two nations amidst ongoing conflicts.
