A New Defense Cooperation Agreement

According to Главком: During a visit to Saudi Arabia on March 26, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud oversaw the signing of a defense cooperation agreement between their two nations. This foundational pact establishes a framework for future contracts, technological collaboration, and investment, while also enhancing Ukraine's international standing as a security contributor. This agreement marks a significant diplomatic move for Ukraine as it seeks to build strategic relationships beyond its traditional partners.

Meeting with Military Specialists

President Zelenskyy also met with Ukrainian military experts who have been in Saudi Arabia for over a week. These specialists possess valuable experience in countering Iranian-made drones, which Zelenskyy highlighted as a key asset for potential cooperation with Middle Eastern nations.

'For five years, Ukrainians have been fighting against the same kind of terrorist attacks using ballistic missiles and drones that the Iranian regime is now launching across the Middle East and the Gulf region. Saudi Arabia possesses resources that are of interest to Ukraine. This cooperation can be mutually beneficial.' - Volodymyr Zelenskyy

The President emphasized the importance of international support. 'I have arrived in Saudi Arabia. Important meetings are planned. We value support and stand with those who are ready to work with us for the sake of security,' he added. Zelenskyy also noted that Ukraine has been approached by several nations, including:

  • The United States of America
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Qatar
  • The United Arab Emirates
  • Bahrain
  • Jordan
  • Kuwait

'With some we are already working, and our expert teams are already on the ground: assessing the situation, sharing invaluable experience,' he stated.

This defense cooperation agreement represents a major step in developing Ukraine's relations with Middle Eastern countries and could significantly impact regional security. The signing during a presidential visit signals an intensification of Ukraine's diplomatic outreach to states of strategic importance in the context of global security. Military collaboration could become a crucial tool not only for Ukraine but also for regional stability, given threats from terrorist groups and the states that support them. This move also demonstrates Ukraine's readiness for deeper integration into the international security architecture and the strengthening of its own defense capabilities.

As Ukraine strengthens its defense ties with Saudi Arabia, the situation on the ground remains dynamic, with significant developments reported from the frontlines. For instance, Ukrainian forces have successfully captured Berezove, while Russian shelling has targeted critical infrastructure in Kherson. These events highlight the urgent need for international alliances in the face of ongoing conflict.
