Ukraine's Return to Daylight Saving Time in 2026

According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukraine will switch to daylight saving time in 2026, maintaining its traditional seasonal clock changes. This follows the failure of a 2024 parliamentary bill, which sought to permanently adopt standard time, to be signed into law by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Consequently, the nation will continue the practice of adjusting clocks twice a year, a system that has been in place since 1996 under a Cabinet of Ministers resolution.

Although Ukraine's parliament voted in 2024 to stop the seasonal time changes, the president's signature was not secured, leaving the older government decree in force. The time change is a common practice across much of Europe, aligning Ukraine with many of its regional partners. Therefore, clocks will spring forward in the spring of 2026.

Date of the Time Change

The shift will occur at 3:00 AM on Sunday, March 29, 2026. The decision underscores Ukraine's ongoing alignment with European norms, as a majority of EU nations still observe seasonal time adjustments. This practice can influence various domestic sectors, including commerce, energy consumption, and international coordination.

Maintaining the clock-change practice keeps Ukraine in step with a prevailing European trend. The topic remains subject to public debate and may be revisited by lawmakers in the future, reflecting ongoing discussions about its economic and social impacts.
