Ukraine Strikes Russia's Baltic Fleet Main Base in Kronstadt
Kronstadt 2.0: A Coordinated Strike
According to ХВИЛЯ: Ukraine's defense forces have confirmed they successfully hit several critical targets, including the Kronstadt naval base, the Russian Navy's 15th arsenal, two oil facilities in the Leningrad region, and a fuel depot in Ust-Labinsk. This series of attacks has been designated Operation Kronstadt 2.0.
The operation was carried out by a joint task force comprising:
- 1st Special Purpose Center of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU)
- 9th Battalion "Kairos" of the 414th Brigade "Madyar's Birds"
- 413th Special Purpose Regiment "Reid"
- 412th Special Purpose Brigade "Nemesis"
- Special Operations Forces (SOF)
- Security Service of Ukraine (SBU)
- Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR)
The Kronstadt base serves as the primary hub for berthing, repairing, and supplying ships of Russia's Baltic Fleet.
Among the confirmed targets was the Peterhof fuel depot in Lomonosov, where a direct hit triggered an explosion and fire. Another strike hit the Neste oil terminal, which has a storage capacity of 40,000 cubic meters for light petroleum products. Additionally, an arsenal storing missiles and ammunition at the 1060th Logistics Center in the settlement of Velyka Izhora was struck, resulting in secondary detonations and a large fire.
At the Ust-Labinsk fuel depot in Krasnodar Krai, a series of explosions ignited a blaze that engulfed at least three tanks of petroleum products. This depot is a key supply hub for Russian forces operating in the southern and eastern directions. The attacks occurred overnight on June 6, 2026, utilizing drones to target multiple sites across Russia.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky characterized these strikes as "Ukrainian sanctions" in response to Russian aggression.
The Security Service of Ukraine stated that "such special operations weaken the enemy's Baltic Fleet. Disabling these assets complicates the adversary's logistics, reduces fleet combat readiness, and limits Russia's ability to operate in the Baltic region."
Strategic Impact on Russian Military Capabilities
Operation Kronstadt 2.0 is part of Ukraine's broader strategy to degrade Russia's military power, particularly in naval operations. The successful targeting of strategic sites highlights the increasing effectiveness of Ukrainian forces in conducting complex special operations deep inside enemy territory. This campaign is expected to hinder Russia's operational capabilities in the region by disrupting its logistics and supply chains.
In a related development, the Ukrainian Security Service has intensified its operations, successfully targeting military installations in both the Leningrad and Krasnodar regions. These strikes are part of a broader strategy to undermine Russian military capabilities and can be further explored in our detailed report on the recent military actions by Ukraine.
