Ukraine Deploys Expert Teams to the Middle East, Led by Umerov's Diplomatic Mission
Rustem Umerov's Diplomatic Mission to the UAE
According to Главком: On March 11, Ukraine's Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, commenced an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE). His itinerary includes several other Middle Eastern nations, notably Saudi Arabia. This diplomatic push coincides with the deployment of three specialized Ukrainian teams, comprised of experts, military personnel, and engineers, to the region.
These expert groups have already been dispatched to Qatar, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia, and recently concluded a visit to Jordan. During his tour, Umerov is holding discussions on potential avenues for cooperation with regional partners.
Forging International Defense Partnerships
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the mission's purpose, stating:
“Three of our groups have gone to the Middle East. They are strong groups – with experts, military personnel, engineers. Today, the military are already communicating, already working.”
This outreach is part of Ukraine's broader strategy to build international support for its defense capabilities.
Furthermore, the Ukrainian president has proposed an international deal to exchange Ukraine's latest interceptor missile technology for PAC-3 missiles used in Patriot air defense systems, which Ukraine urgently requires. Strengthening ties with Middle Eastern nations is viewed as crucial for enhancing Ukraine's defense resilience and advancing its military technology. This diplomatic effort highlights the strategic importance of the region for Ukraine as it seeks to bolster its military capacity amid the ongoing conflict.
Umerov's visit underscores Ukraine's commitment to securing vital defense partnerships. Cooperation with the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and other regional powers could represent a significant step in strengthening both Ukraine's security and broader regional stability.
