Ukraine Strikes Ryazan Refinery and Russian Warships in Caspian Sea Overnight
Strategic Russian Assets Hit in Coordinated Attack
According to ХВИЛЯ: On the night of May 15, 2026, Ukraine’s defense forces launched strikes against several strategic targets inside the Russian Federation. Among the hit sites was the Ryazan oil refinery, a facility with an annual capacity of roughly 17 million tons of crude oil. Additionally, attacks targeted vessels stationed at the Caspian Sea base in Kaspiysk, including a small missile corvette and a minesweeper.
Ammunition Depots and Key Equipment Destroyed
Other critical objectives included ammunition storage sites in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine’s Luhansk and Donetsk regions. Warehouses near Yepifanivka and Rovenky in occupied Luhansk were struck. In the same region, a logistics and supply depot in Rayhorodka was also eliminated. In Donetsk, strikes hit an electronic warfare equipment depot in Dmytrivka, as well as an MR-232 Bussol-S radar station and an optoelectronic module in Mariupol. A fuel and lubricants storage facility in Mariupol was also destroyed.
Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed these operations, stating that
“Ukraine’s defense forces will continue to systematically take measures to fully halt Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine”
(General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine). These actions aim to degrade the enemy’s military capabilities and bolster the country’s security.
This series of strikes highlights an intensification of Ukrainian military operations, likely in response to Russia’s escalation of the conflict. By targeting strategic assets such as refineries and military depots, Ukraine seeks not only to deplete the aggressor’s resources but also to strengthen its own defensive posture. These developments could significantly shape the trajectory of the war and the strategic calculations of both sides moving forward.
In addition to the strikes in Ryazan and the Caspian Sea, Ukraine's military has ramped up its operations against other critical Russian assets. For instance, recent attacks on an oil refinery in Yaroslavl and a drone depot in Rostov signify a broader strategy to undermine Russia's logistical and operational capabilities. Such coordinated efforts reflect an escalating conflict, further emphasizing the need to monitor these developments closely.
