Preservation of National Memory and Dignity of the Ukrainian People
This day serves as a reminder of the importance of preserving national memory and the necessity of protecting the sovereignty and dignity of the Ukrainian people.
In total, Ukrainians experienced three Holodomors in the 20th century: 1921-1923, 1932-1933, and the famine of 1946-1947. The most extensive was the famine of 1932-1933 - it is referred to as the genocide of the Ukrainian people, perpetrated by the Stalinist regime.
The famine of 1921-1923 was caused by the Bolshevik authorities' seizure of food, drought, and the consequences of war. The exact number of victims is unknown, but researchers estimate it at around 500,000.
The Day of Memory of the Victims of the Holodomors is annually commemorated by Ukrainians, recalling the tragedies of the past and emphasizing the importance of preserving historical memory for future generations. This day reminds us of the victims and suffering of millions who suffered from the genocide caused by famine and calls for the preservation of national dignity and memory.
