Illegal Migrant Sweep in Ukraine

According to Державна міграційна служба: Between May 22 and June 5, 2026, Ukrainian authorities uncovered 151 individuals residing in the country illegally during an operation code-named 'Migrant.' As part of this effort, officials issued 124 orders for the forced return of foreign nationals and another 27 decisions for their compulsory expulsion.

In addition, 16 foreigners were placed in Temporary Accommodation Centers for Foreigners (PTPl). A further 173 individuals were banned from re-entering Ukraine. These actions highlight the country's ongoing campaign against unauthorized migration.

Managing Migration Flows

These measures are part of the Ukrainian government's broader strategy to regulate migration patterns and uphold national security. As illegal migration rises, nations facing similar challenges often tighten border controls and introduce new regulations for foreigners. This operation also signals a potential increase in international cooperation to combat unlawful migration.

As Ukraine intensifies its efforts to manage unauthorized migration, it is important to consider the broader context of foreign nationals in the country. Recent reports indicate that over 155,000 Russian citizens are currently living in Ukraine, raising questions about the implications for national security and immigration policies. Understanding these dynamics can provide valuable insights into the ongoing challenges faced by Ukrainian authorities.
